More than one hundred years after they were first drawn, Walter Crane's fairy tale illustrations remain full of magic. The beloved children's book illustrator brought life to classic stories. Some are still bedtime favorites, such as "Beauty and the Beast," "Robin Hood," and "Little Red Riding Hood." Others we may not remember well today, such as "Princess Belle-Étoile" and "The Hind in the Wood."
Crane's illustrations are nothing if not dramaticboth sweet and sinister, filled with old-fashioned intrigue, pomp, and turns of plot. There are damsels in billowing dresses, royals in regalia, babes adrift at sea, and all the magical characters you could hope for: fairies, beasts, dragons, cursed frogs who are really very charmed, and maidens who are really very cursed.
