Kenojuak Ashevak was a Canadian national treasure and a pioneer of modern Inuit Art. Her 1960 print The Enchanted Owl was so popular that it was reproduced on a Canadian postage stamp. A groundbreaking artist for Kinngait Studios, Ashevak was commissioned to create a lithograph commemorating the establishment of the Arctic territory, Nunavut, in 1999. The work, Siilavut, Nunavut (Our Environment, Our Land), is a powerful visual tribute to the deep connection between people, animals, and the earth.
