Description
Schooled in French Impressionism and filled with national pride,
a small community of artists came together in 1920 to form the
Group of Seven, whose objective was to produce distinctly Canadian
imagery. The Group shared a passion for Canada’s wilderness and a
strong desire to create a distinctive visual language, inspired first
and foremost by the Canadian landscape. Their goal was to explore
the country and paint it, and in so doing, their spectacular paintings
and adventurous spirit came to shape Canadian art and identity.
