Edward Hopper spent much of his life in New England. His association with the Whitney Museum was a long one too: he exhibited at its predecessor, the Whitney Studio Club, in the 1920s, and the Museum purchased his painting Early Sunday Morning for its Permanent Collection in 1931, the year it opened.
