Description

Take your thoughts for a ramble through an offbeat map of Washington, DC. Artist Gareth Fuller spent months exploring the US capital city and interpreting its idiosyncrasies, both contemporary and historical. The resulting hand-drawn artwork tells the story of an influential and culturally rich metropolis, a seat of government and center of national identity over time. Like other works in Fuller’s Purposeful Wanderings series, this one vibrates with fine, often humorous details and what the artist describes as “a collage of fact and fiction.” The puzzle’s reverse side features the Declaration of Independence—an 1823 William J. Stone engraving commissioned by John Quincy Adams, son of signatory John Adams—providing another layer of history, as well as wayfinding cues to assist with each piece’s location on the DC map.
