Description

Rose pattern Adapted from Dard Hunter (American, 1883–1966) Cover variant for Elbert Hubbard's "preachment," Get Out or Get in Line, c. 1904–1910 Born in 1883 at the height of the Industrial Revolution, William Joseph "Dard" Hunter became one of the most influential designers in the American Arts and Crafts movement, which shunned mass production in favor of simple and elegant handicrafts. At age twenty-one, Hunter took a summer job at the famed Roycroft art colony in East Aurora, New York. He remained at Roycroft several years, thriving under the influence of founder Elbert Hubbard and the colony's bevy of notable artists and craftspeople. Becoming an expert in papermaking, Hunter eventually wrote twenty books on the subject, eight of them handmade under his own publishing label. - INDIVIDUAL ITEM RRP £1.99
